Brainspotting

Brainspotting (BSP) is a powerful therapeutic approach used to help people process trauma, emotional distress, and other psychological challenges. It was developed by Dr. David Grand in 2003 and is based on the idea that where you look (your eye position) can help access unprocessed trauma stored in the brain.

How It Works:

  • A trained therapist guides the client to focus on a specific "brainspot," which is an eye position linked to an unresolved emotional experience.
  • This position is thought to access deeper brain regions, including the limbic system, where trauma and emotions are stored.
  • By maintaining awareness of body sensations and emotions while focusing on the brainspot, clients can process and release stored trauma more effectively.

Benefits of Brainspotting:

  • Helps with PTSD, anxiety, depression, chronic pain, and performance issues.
  • Works faster for some individuals compared to traditional talk therapy.
  • Can be integrated with other modalities like EMDR, somatic experiencing, and mindfulness practices to enhance healing.
